Climb-A-Thon 2024 – May 18th

climbathon announcement featuring a child climbing

Project Send It’s first major fundraising event of 2024 will be a Climb-A-Thon! Yeah, just like the bike-a-thons you did as a kid, except we’ll be climbing. Wait a sec, you’re telling me you never did a bike-a-thon? Well, here’s how it works:

1 Register for the Event (and get your entire crew to register as a team, it’s more fun with friends!)

2 Get your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors to sponsor you. The more you climb, the more money you raise for Project Send It! (Download the pledge sheet here)

3 Show up, climb like it’s your job, have a great time. You can climb with your friends and make new friends

4 Go back to your sponsors and collect the pledge dollars (we can help with that)

What are we raising money for?

All the money raised during the climb-a-thon will be used to enable our programming in the Denver and Portland regions, and to fund our Sendership program for the second half of 2024.

What to expect on May 18th

Denver

Denver will be climbing at The Spot Thornton from 9am until 6pm, you’ll climb as many routes as you can. During the day, we’ll have food and drinks available to all participants. At 6 pm we’ll recognize the climbers that climbed the most routes and raised the most money for Project Send It!

The Spot Thornton has an extra special challenge, there is a $500 bounty on a crack route called Flared Crack. Legend has it, this was once climbed by the great Tommy Caldwell and never since. Be the first to send it on video and claim your $500! Read More Here

For those of you participating in Thornton, your registration includes tacos from R & B Taco and Grill!

The Climb-a-thon will be more fun with your friends, so build a team! Tell a story that includes what you’re up to, why you’re doing it, and the information they need to join. Here’s an example:

Want to see how much we can climb in a day? I found this interesting organization that breaks down some barriers to rock climbing for disadvantaged youth and they’re raising money with a Climbathon on May 18th. Sign up at www.projectsendit.com/climbathon  Put in team name xxxxx when you register. Registration includes Tacos!

Maximize the impact of your participation by being a sponsored climber. Each route you climb will have more meaning when you raise money with each send! Ask your friends and family that aren’t climbing themselves to sponsor you. They can pledge an amount for each route you climb, or a set amount. Use the pledge spreadsheet to track your sponsors. Here’s an example email you could send:

Subject: Join Me in Supporting Project Send It Climbathon!

Dear Friends and Family,

I hope this email finds you well and filled with the same excitement I have as I prepare for my next adventure! On May 18th, I’ll be participating in the 2024 Project Send It Climbathon, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share this journey with you.

What makes this climbathon particularly special is its purpose: raising funds for Project Send It’s incredible programming. This initiative provides invaluable climbing opportunities to children who may not otherwise have access to such experiences. From regular climbing sessions to the Sendership program, every dollar raised directly impacts the lives of these young climbers, fostering growth, confidence, and a love for adventure.

During the Climbathon, I’ll be pushing my limits to climb as many routes as I can in just nine hours. Picture this: starting from the ground and ascending approximately 40 feet, relying solely on my strength and determination, with my trusty belayer ensuring I stay safe along the way. It’s a physical and mental challenge unlike any other, but knowing that each climb contributes to such a worthy cause fuels my motivation like nothing else.

Now, here’s where you come in. I’m reaching out to ask for your support in the form of sponsorship. Whether you choose to pledge an amount for each route I conquer or a set donation for the day, your contribution will make a tangible difference in the lives of these aspiring climbers. And if you’re curious about my capabilities, let me assure you—I’ve been putting in the work. Just yesterday, I tackled 10 routes in 90 minutes, leaving me both pumped and pretty confident I can climb a fair number of routes on the 18th.

So, are you ready to join me on this journey? Your support not only motivates me to reach new heights but also empowers children to do the same. So what do you say? Want to make me suffer? Give me a reason to go for 40 or 50 routes?

Thank you for considering my request, and I look forward to sharing my Climbathon adventure with you all.

Warmest regards,

[your name]
